SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 26 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Island Council of Tenerife, via the Scientific and Technological Park (PCTT), has entered into a framework collaboration agreement with the Tenerife Sports Club Foundation aimed at fostering innovation, entrepreneurship, and technological transfer.

The signing of the agreement was attended by the Cabildo President, Rosa Dávila; the Minister for Innovation, Research and Development, Juan José Martínez; and the President of the Tenerife Sports Club and its Foundation, Paulino Rivero.

This agreement, which spans four years, facilitates cooperation between both organisations to encourage and execute activities within the STEAM framework (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) to enhance the competitiveness of the population of Tenerife, particularly concerning the innovation, enhancement, and development of new employment opportunities.

Consequently, in the forthcoming four years, both the PCTT and the CD Tenerife Foundation will implement various initiatives throughout the island’s municipalities to bolster innovation and entrepreneurship. Among the initial endeavours planned are the FIRST LEGO League and the Tecnocon Intech.

Rosa Dávila remarked that “this is a significant agreement to nurture the talent and skill set of our young people. We will foster innovation, entrepreneurship, and tech training, utilising sport as a catalyst for change. We exist in a period where sport and technology are more interconnected than ever. The growth of esports and the integration of advanced technologies in football are evident illustrations of how innovation is reshaping all facets of our lives, and through this agreement, we aspire to ensure our youth receive better training and more opportunities for the future.”

Paulino Rivero noted that Club Deportivo Tenerife “encompasses more than just football, and the Foundation supports this goal of enhancing our community. This partnership will enable countless young individuals to connect with science, technology, and innovation, improving their training to become more competitive in a global landscape.”

Rivero also underscored the efforts made by the CD Tenerife Foundation in domains such as disability, equality, and social integration, as well as in schools—announcing a new agreement which will benefit approximately 3,500 young individuals across seven municipalities—and in the realm of esports. “All these contributions help enhance society and allow us to continue advancing as a club.”

Additionally, Juan José Martínez stated that the Tenerife Science and Technology Park “aims to assist in diversifying the island’s economy by nurturing an innovation culture as the cornerstone of boosting competitiveness. CD Tenerife and football present the ideal means to achieve this through the agreement we have formalised with its Foundation. Undoubtedly, this is excellent news for the island’s youth.”

The Tecnocon Intech events are designed to promote education and awareness in STEAM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) and the responsible use of technology among the inhabitants of Tenerife. A fundamental component of Tecnocon Intech is its pronounced educational focus. Through various activities such as events, workshops, presentations, and immersive experiences, the objective is to encourage learning in STEAM disciplines and advocate for the ethical and responsible application of technology.

The FIRST LEGO League, on the other hand, provides participants with a significant educational experience, commencing with team-building exercises and culminating in the opportunity to take part in a pertinent robotics event. This programme targets girls and boys, as well as young individuals aged 5 to 16, in educational institutions or comparable organisations.
