SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 25 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The president of the Tenerife Island Council expressed on Wednesday that on the island “there is no tolerance for impunity” following the announcement of a five-year prison term and a fine exceeding 44,000 euros for an individual who set fire to the Los Realejos mountain last year.
During a press briefing to reveal the decisions made by the Government Council, he stated that “the message is unequivocal” and signifies that “those responsible for arson will face incarceration.”
He elaborated that the Council has declared a “war” on arsonists – in fact, it was noted in the legal documents – and will not permit any attempts to jeopardise the safety and environment of the island, emphasising that this ruling constitutes “a significant advancement”.
The president expressed gratitude for the investigative efforts conducted by the National Police, the Civil Guard, the Cabildo’s forestry teams, and the legal services, as “the maximum penalty” has been delivered for this type of offence.
“Incidents involving the alleged arsonists in Vilaflor, La Esperanza, and Los Realejos, where individuals committing criminal acts over the years have been apprehended, serve as further evidence that we will not relent,” he clarified.
