SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 25 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Governing Council of the Tenerife Island Council has approved on Wednesday the administrative dossier that authorises the programme for the comprehensive care and development of the elderly population on the island, named ‘Islenior’, which replaces the Ansina programme.

This announcement was made during a press conference by Vice President Lope Afonso, who emphasised that this marks a “milestone” of this term after the prior elimination of the previous programme “without any clear justification” by the former PSOE-CS Government.

He highlighted that the new scheme is a result of extensive collaborative efforts with various groups and associations, adhering to the “healthy ageing” framework proposed by the UN and WHO, structured around six key areas: promotion of well-being, social environment, territory, management, awareness, and information.

Afonso elaborated that this programme signifies a “paradigm shift” in approaching relations with the elderly by introducing the “senior concept”, aiming to dispel the outdated perception of “old people or wizards” often associated with this demographic, who actually play a “decisive role” in supporting younger generations.

Furthermore, he stated that the objective is for the plan to be “integrative”, advancing beyond the previous Ansina programme, which had a “more recreational” approach, by incorporating additional aspects such as mobility, loneliness, and services.

In the realm of Education, regulations governing the nursery voucher were approved with an investment of 1.2 million euros, allowing support for 1,500 families in the education of their children under three years old.

This initiative, rooted in the Council’s commitment to balancing work and family life, will enable beneficiary households to cover various expenses related to early childhood education, including pre-registration, enrolment, care, hygiene, meals, and school clothing.

CABILDO EDUCA

The tender for the ‘Cabildo Educa’ project was also approved, amounting to 64,000 euros.

This programme encompasses an investment of 1.3 million euros and represents a comprehensive curricular support initiative for 250 educational centres in Tenerife, featuring a total of 34 educational programmes.

In the Youth sector, the tender for the planning, development, and evaluation of the Tenerife Joven School was approved for approximately 134,000 euros.

The aim of this project is to enhance the training and professional qualifications of young people, equipping them with skills and abilities that improve their employability and integration into the job market.

The courses, which are provided free of charge, cater to young individuals aged 16 to 35 and are available in three formats: in-person, blended learning, and online.

Additionally, the Merkarte project was awarded to the company Explorelandia for over 124,000 euros.

This project is crucial for the promotion of young talent in Tenerife, offering exposure and visibility, networking opportunities, professional experience, as well as marketing and sales prospects.

ABADES SOCIAL HEALTH CENTRE

In terms of Social Action, a multi-year financial adjustment for the expenses of the Institute of Social and Health Care (IASS) was approved for the construction of the Abades social health centre in Arico, with a total budget of 5,006,016.74 euros.

The Government of the Canary Islands will finance 55% of this budget, as per the agreement established for creating new social-healthcare facilities, with the centre featuring 76 residential places.

Additionally, a collaboration agreement was established between the IASS and the El Tanque town council to implement a multi-year nominative subsidy, aimed at funding the basic project for the extension, refurbishment, and interior renovation of the senior residence.

This initiative will enhance the capacity for care by adding 44 residential places and 19 day centre spots (currently, there are 26 residential places and 11 in the day centre).

Moreover, a collaboration agreement was approved with the University of La Laguna to organise the Pre-World Congress on the Rights of Children and Adolescents, scheduled for September 26 and 27, to promote the protection and advancement of children’s and adolescents’ rights in Tenerife.

In the Museums sector, a multi-year expenditure of 297,388 euros was approved to hire a room controller and customer service representative at the Customer Service Centre at the Castillo San Cristóbal Interpretation Centre.

Additionally, the Governing Council approved the appointments of footballers Ayoze Pérez and Pedri as Illustrious Sons of the island of Tenerife following their achievement with the Spanish football team at Euro 2024.
