SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 25 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Tenerife Island Council, via the Mobility department, has completed the installation of the fourth segment of the pathway that constitutes the Grand Insular Ring of Padre Anchieta. The operation was carried out yesterday afternoon, on Tuesday, employing two heavy-duty cranes for the assembly. In this context,

The president of the Cabildo, Rosa Dávila, has conveyed her delight at the progress of the project and notes that, as per forecasts, the installation of the fourth segment is expected to occur next week, while modules 6, 7, 8, and 9 are scheduled for installation in October. Following this, the structure of the ring will be concluded by the end of November with the installation of modules 10 and 11.

“The schedule for the works is being adhered to, and we anticipate completing the civil engineering works between April and May. It must be noted that this walkway will transform the landscape of Padre Anchieta and the city of La Laguna; an infrastructure with a design that received the National Innovation and Design Awards 2019, bestowed by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities of Spain,” explained Dávila.

Additionally, he emphasised that the effect of this pedestrian ring on traffic congestion is “crucial in alleviating delays at one of the most critical points on the Northern Highway. During peak times, waiting durations will decrease by 50%, resulting in improved traffic flow and a significant time saving for our drivers.”

Meanwhile, the Councillor for Roads, Dámaso Arteaga, who has been overseeing the assembly operation, indicated that the installation has necessitated traffic adjustments due to the closure of the two lanes at the Padre Anchieta roundabout, which will persist until Friday from 8:30 p.m. to 6 a.m.

As a result of these closures, the following diversions will be implemented: access from TF-5 to TF-24 and Astrofísico Francisco Sánchez street via Lora y Tamayo – Mayber street – Camino San Miguel de Geneto – Domingo González Pérez street – TF-265 or El Coromoto and access to TF-5 heading north from Geneto and TF-24 via Avenida de La Trinidad.

The construction of the Grand Pedestrian Ring of Padre Anchieta involves eleven metal components weighing 40 tons each (totaling 1,500 tons) as well as three connecting ramps (North, Centre, and South), representing an investment of 8.8 million euros. The works, being carried out by Obras Huarte Lain SA, involve the assembly of the four segments that make up the north ramp, measuring 12.5 m in length and 1.85 m in free width. This ramp is supported by seven square-section metal piles, which have already been installed. The Cabildo de Tenerife urges drivers to remain cautious at all times.
