The urban future of Las Teresitas beach is finally on the verge of becoming a reality. Yesterday, the Governing Board sanctioned the proposal to the municipal Environmental Assessment Commission to initiate the process for minor modification number 2 of the consolidated text of PGOU-92 and the basic adaptation to PGOU-05, which is currently in effect, in the scope of local unconsolidated urban land.
This modification, initiated by the Urban Planning Department and founded on a report crafted by Gestur, seeks to improve the public amenities of the beach by constructing a promenade and urban park, as well as an area for facilities. This plan will integrate recreational spaces, areas for moderate sports, and a hotel alongside the sand and swimming area. The mayor, José Manuel Bermúdez, underscored this significant advancement in the evolution of Las Teresitas. “We are progressing towards the initial endorsement of a document that is vital for the development of the beachfront, which will provide essential services for this coastal region, such as sewage systems and lighting,” he remarked.
The Councillor for Urban Planning, Zaida González, emphasised the work being done to enhance the organisation of the beach. “We vowed to ensure that the collapse of the General Plan would not hinder critical projects like the development of Las Teresitas. Hence, we requested Gestur to advance this document through an amendment of the current General Plan.” She pointed out that “with this draft in hand, we can continue to make progress so that, during this term, we can have an operational plan.”
