The council of Adeje has approved a planning licence for the tourist project ‘Cuna del Alma’, which is being developed near Puertito, at a cost of 43.2 million euros.
In its initial phase, the initiative includes the construction of 314 accommodation units across 90 properties and 88 parking spaces, covering an area of over 45,500 square metres — of which more than 17,000 will be constructed. A one-year period is allocated to commence the works, expected to last up to a maximum of four years.
Podemos Adeje has voiced its “strongest opposition” to the council’s judgement, deeming it “a clear assault on the environment” owing to the absence of an environmental impact assessment, as confirmed by the Canary Islands Agency for the Protection of the Natural Environment, as stated in their announcement.
In addition, both the Heritage Service of the Cabildo de Tenerife and the Heritage Department of the Canary Islands Government have pointed out the “irreversible harm” to the archaeological heritage resulting from ongoing actions that are currently under suspension orders.
“The Fraga administration aims to push forward with a project fraught with irregularities and potential illegalities, ostensibly backed by the current Canary Islands Government, which would appear to be acting as the political wing of environmental terrorism within the Canary Islands,” they remarked.
The purple party suggests that the Canarian authorities “seem to have overlooked the fact that 200,000 individuals rallied in the Canary Islands last April, demanding a shift in model, better harmony with the natural environment, and an improvement in the living conditions of the community, along with a complete cessation of ‘Cuna del Alma’.”
