LA LAGUNA (TENERIFE), 19 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Mayor of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, alongside the Vice President of the Island and Councillor for Tourism of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Lope Afonso, convened a working meeting this Thursday to evaluate the progress of several shared projects between their respective administrations concerning the coastline of the municipality.

Technical representatives from both organisations and the councillors for Works, Beaches and Swimming Pools and Tourism, Ángel Chinea and Estefanía Díaz, also participated in the gathering.

Luis Yeray Gutiérrez expressed gratitude to the island vice president for agreeing to a meeting aimed primarily at “coordinating, advancing and promoting projects of significant importance demanded by the local community for the enhancement of the coast.”

The mayor noted that, among other issues, they discussed the essential restoration and refurbishment of the Punta del Hidalgo coastal promenade, for which projects are already underway, and the necessary permits are being sought from the General Directorate of Coasts.

In this context, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez praised the efficiency of this department of the Government of the Canary Islands, “which has promptly initiated efforts to resolve the challenges we are facing when presenting these proposals.”

The mayor also mentioned other schemes such as the redevelopment, sanitation, and enhancement of the areas surrounding La Barranquera in Valle de Guerra, as well as the restoration of access to El Arenal beach in Bajamar, where plans for stabilising the slope in the area are also intended to ensure the safety of bathers and those wishing to surf along the municipality’s coast.

For his part, Lope Afonso expressed gratitude to the mayor and the councillors of the La Laguna council for “their engagement and the support extended to the ongoing projects aimed at further strengthening and enhancing the coastline in such an essential area for the island as the Northeast.”

FOUR MILLION FOR LA BARRANQUERA

“La Laguna boasts numerous assets that already draw visitors, being a World Heritage City with vital infrastructure for the development of the island, but we aspire to promote its coastline through actions and comprehensive solutions that extend beyond merely facilitating access to bathing areas; we also aim to restore, from an environmental standpoint, several areas that may have been overly developed,” declared the island councillor for Tourism.

Lope Afonso highlighted that advancements have been made in progressing some previously planned projects, “also integrating initiatives suggested by the City Council in this management area and ensuring they are properly reflected in the budgets for the coming year.”

With regard to La Barranquera, the island vice president mentioned that it is among the most advanced proposals, with a budget for the actual execution of the project “which, in this instance, will surpass 4 million euros.”

He added that “we will subsequently include the results of having already established the execution proposals that will delineate the economic scope.”

The Tenerife Island Council reaffirmed its dedication to incorporating the Arenal beach project into the funding programme for ‘Tenerife and the Sea’, considering the urgency highlighted by the La Laguna City Council to commence these works.

Both administrations have committed to organising these types of meetings in the forthcoming months, characterised by both political and technical aspects, with the goal of refining these actions and ensuring their effectiveness.
