SAN SEBASTIAN DE LA GOMERA, 14 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –
On Saturday afternoon, Maritime Rescue intercepted a cayuco carrying 70 migrants as they navigated in waters south of La Gomera, marking the third irregular vessel detected that day in the Canary Islands.
According to the state agency, it was the pleasure craft ‘Samurai’ that spotted a cayuco around 4:00 p.m., approximately 21 miles south of the island.
Consequently, the Guardamar Calíope was dispatched to the location and rescued 69 men and one woman, all in apparent good health, at approximately 5:40 p.m., who were subsequently taken to La Gomera.
This incident follows the arrival of the third unauthorised boat in the Canary Islands on the same day, after a cayuco carrying 57 migrants reached El Hierro unaided in the early morning. Additionally, another vessel with 27 people was intercepted in the central hours of the day about three miles off the coast of El Hierro.
