The mayor of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, inaugurated the new Bajamar multipurpose park on Monday afternoon, after a performance carried out by the Municipal Services Department with an investment of 138,621 euros. The new facilities involve the total transformation of a 1,600-meter site that was in disuse and now includes a sports area, a children’s play area and a canine space.
“After many years of demand, the inhabitants of Bajamar already have a place where they can socialize, go for a walk, practice sports, take their boys and girls and also their pets,” celebrated the local councilor, who highlighted the work carried out since the entry of the new government team, in June 2019, to “pay off this debt” with the people of the Northeast. “The region is a jewel within the municipality” and from the Corporation “we have the obligation to dignify it” with “very important” investments like this, so “it will not be the only one,” he said.
The councilor attended the inauguration together with the councilor for Municipal Services, Josimar Hernández, and the councilors Rubens Ascanio and José Juan Gavilán. Numerous inhabitants of the area were also present at the event, who were able to meet and release the equipment.
Josimar Hernández explained that, with the execution of this project, it seeks to “promote the quality of life of citizens, especially the people who live in Bajamar”, and “the image” of this residential nucleus, since the land where it is now “one of the most complete parks in the municipality was a plot without any use and quite deteriorated.”
Among the services offered by this multipurpose park, the training track (with cement floor and compacted sandstone) and an enclosure for pets (fenced and with wooden furniture) stand out, “two of the most demanded uses” by the inhabitants of this nucleus. A children’s playground has also been included, with a complex of towers with a walkway and slide, swing, climbing frame and springs, among other elements.
The entire plot is crossed by an interior path, which serves as access to the different sectors, and in it a total of 1,691 units of trees, palms, shrubs, bulbous trees, lively carpets and Canarian plants have been planted. These last two, in fact, are the most numerous (816 from the first group and 413 from the second). The new recreation area is the result of months of work.
