Plenary session of Güímar SERGIO MÉNDEZ

The Güímar government group (PSOE-CC) acknowledged yesterday that “there were errors” in the files of emergency works of the coastal centers of Santa Lucía and Las Bajas, both decreed by the municipal government presided over by the previous mayor, Airam Puerta . The residents of Las Bajas, present at the extraordinary plenary session called by the PP, were critical, in such a way that there was a need for the police presence.

The previous municipal councilor – he was until July – avoided answering the questions of a neighbor of Las Bajas, Ana Hernández, who took the floor to question the steps taken. “What good is the paper that we were made to sign if it does not bear the letterhead of the City Council or the signature of the mayor?” In addition, he asked, “How are we going to return to our homes if the works are not finished?”

Puerta excused himself, taking the advice of the lawyers not to answer. Of course, he pointed out, to questions from the Popular Party, that the works were carried out prior communication to Costas and the Government of the Canary Islands “to act on the road, not on the beach.”

The works were budgeted at 342,000 euros and, according to the certifications of the UTE that carries them out, they already exceed 1.2 million euros, an amount that the Consistory has communicated that it will not pay.
There was also an extra cost in Santa Lucía and here the drafting of the project of the same was agreed, when they are already finished and paid.

Likewise, the purchase and installation of some lanterns in the City Hall, at more than 322.69 euros each, of the 29 placed, was debated in plenary session, and the possibility of reinstalling the old ones, the work of the local designer, was left open. Felipe Padrón Sanabria.

Regarding the police complaint opened in May in El Socorro to some socialist militants for breaking the COVID regulations, it was striking that Beatriz Perdomo (PSOE) abstained together with Cs and IU. The municipal secretary recalled that the file was incomplete, without affiliation of three of the 11 denounced.
