SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 12 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Tenerife Island Council, via its Education department, will extend its curriculum support initiatives to 250 educational establishments during the 2024-2025 academic year.
This initiative involves an investment of 1.3 million euros and introduces the inclusion of new Canarian content across all projects within the Tenerife Island Programme for the Promotion of Reading (PIALTE); an increase in classrooms for Navega en Positivo targeting the Primary cycle; enhanced sexual education content to prevent harassment, alongside additional scientific and mathematical material aimed at fostering girls’ interest in these fields.
This initiative was unveiled at a press conference on Thursday by the Minister of Employment and Education, Efraín Medina, along with the service head in the area, Jorge González.
Medina conveyed his pleasure regarding the department’s efforts to implement these initiatives “in good time” with the commencement of the academic year just days earlier.
“For us, these initiatives are of great significance as they involve not just the students but also their families. Thus, this year, as an innovation, we sought to enhance and broaden the Canarian content to promote deeper understanding and appreciation of our traditions, ethnography, and culture,” he emphasised.
Jorge González, in his remarks, underscored the essential role played by various collaborating entities in these projects, including successful bidders and the University of La Laguna through its Foundation.
The curriculum support initiatives are categorised into four primary areas of knowledge: Technology and Safe Internet Use; Sustainability and Mobility; Reading and Culture, Mathematics and Science; as well as Coexistence and Pedagogical Innovation.
Schools will have the opportunity to register for the 34 educational support projects being undertaken by Tenerife Joven and Educa for the upcoming academic year, aimed at students in Preschool, Primary, Secondary, Vocational Training, as well as their families and teachers.
The application window will open from September 16 to October 6 of this year. During this timeframe, each educational institution will submit a single application listing all requested projects in order of priority, and from October 15, a maximum of five projects per centre will be granted.
