SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 11 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The president of the Tenerife Island Council, Rosa Dávila, has publicly urged this Wednesday for the majority stakeholder of CD Tenerife, businessman José Miguel Garrido, to step down from the club amidst the “very critical, very tense climate” surrounding the organisation.

“If we continue in this manner, we will be relegated to the Second Division B,” he emphasised during a press conference where he reported on the decisions made by the Governing Council, marking his full support for the fans’ demonstration planned for the upcoming match at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López.

He believes that “the majority stakeholder must depart from the club now,” while instead he appears to be tuning a “deaf ear” to the grievances of the blue and white supporters from “London,” asserting that he is “justified” in defending this viewpoint as he holds a deep conviction for the club, with the Cabildo being its main sponsor.

“I desire my colours, I want my island,” he expressed, noting that the club’s largest stakeholder has been “wasting away” many years of effort.

Consequently, he asserted, “I do urge Mr. Garrido to step back immediately, as Club Deportivo Tenerife cannot sustain its current predicament for another three years or even three months.”

The vice-president of the Cabildo, Lope Afonso, stated that he will not be present at the demonstration, although he conveyed his “concern” due to the precarious sporting situation, which is “very poor.”

Concerning the role that the Cabildo should assume, he clarified that they ought not to “foster further instability” but rather aid the club in reaching the “long-anticipated promotion,” which requires a “harmony within the environment, an emotional state.”

He thus contends that “it would be valued if the club’s internal operations were addressed as well, particularly the conduct of certain directors and shareholders, notably the majority stakeholder.”

Afonso opines that the Cabildo should adopt a position of “responsibility” and seek to establish “common ground,” in addition to equipping the club with “better resources” from a financial standpoint, alongside a “commitment” to execute a thorough renovation of the stadium to ensure its reopening in 2025, coinciding with the facility’s centenary celebration.
