SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 11 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The president of the Tenerife Island Council, Rosa Dávila, expressed her satisfaction this Wednesday regarding the positive passenger figures that Titsa has recorded this year, having transported 55.5 million passengers, marking a 21% rise, which equates to an additional 10 million trips in merely one year.

“These statistics affirm not only the significance of the green transformation, which we are endorsing through initiatives such as free public transport, the acquisition of new buses, the introduction of new routes, and the enhancement of the most overloaded ones,” Rosa Dávila elaborated during a press conference to announce the resolutions of the Government Council.

She also highlighted that the Cabildo has made a remarkable investment of 88.48 million euros aiming to enhance sustainable mobility on the island with the acquisition of 250 buses.

The island president additionally indicated that by October, a total of 145 new buses will be operational, with the remaining 105 expected to arrive by 2025.

Dávila emphasised that 70% of the purchased vehicles are hybrids, which will facilitate a comprehensive renewal of the current fleet, more than a decade old.

“This upgrade will aid in reducing CO2 emissions; we will no longer emit 6,650 tons of greenhouse gases due to the new hybrid buses, and we will realise a 30% reduction in fossil fuel usage. Furthermore, all new buses comply with the highest standards of accessibility, strengthening Titsa’s standing as the third largest public transport operator in Spain and with one of the most advanced and sustainable fleets in our nation,” she stated.

This information coincides with the initiation of two new university shuttle routes that will link La Orotava and Costa Adeje with the University of La Laguna (ULL), expanding on the existing services.

SHUTTLE BUGGS

These four routes will offer a convenient option for over 3,300 students from the southern region and nearly 4,000 from the northern region.

The new shuttles, 611 (Costa Adeje-University) and 605 (La Orotava-University), complement those introduced last year, which connect Icod de los Vinos (606) and Los Realejos (608) to the Guajara Classrooms, respectively.

Route 611 will link Costa Adeje station with the University Hospital, making stops at Los Cristianos, San Isidro, Güímar, Candelaria, Guajara Campus, Andrómeda Street, La Laguna Interchange (Central Campus in Anchieta), Faculty of Economics, and Lecture Hall.

The shuttle service will run Monday to Friday, departing from Costa Adeje station at 06:45 and 13:10, with returns from the University Hospital at 14:40 and 21:00.

The 605, which will depart from La Orotava station, will stop at Calle Nelson Mandela, El Ramal, Coromoto, the Faculty of Economics, the Guajara Lecture Hall, the Canary Islands University Hospital (HUC), and La Candelaria Hospital.

This new route will operate Monday to Friday, leaving La Orotava at 7:05 a.m. and returning at 2:45 p.m.
