Nueva Canarias (NC) in Tacoronte asserted yesterday that the local administration (PSOE-CC-PP) is “poorly managed” by the mayor, the socialist Sandra Izquierdo, and “continues to exhibit signs of its haphazard approach in every action undertaken within the municipality”. The spokesperson for the left-wing nationalists, José Daniel Díaz Armas, asserts that this has been particularly evident during the celebrations of Christ due to the “haphazardness with which the tripartite coalition operates and the blatant exploitation of something that rightfully belongs to us, in favour of its political interests”.
Díaz Armas indicates that the mayor, “incapable for another year of providing a programme that aligns with tradition and remains true to our principal festivals,” has chosen “to revert to the path of improvisation and to utilise public funds to organise another programme steeped in mediocrity and discontent.”
The former mayor particularly criticises one issue that he believes concerns the populace profoundly: “the unilateral decision to eliminate one of the most significant and cherished events of the festivities, the gala for electing the Harvest Queen, based on the rationale that there are no additional candidates. This event is the oldest and most traditional part of the non-liturgical celebrations and they have tarnished a gala that has always been emblematic and very much our own,” he emphasises.
He further contends that the government “has lost both its sense of shame and decency by stating in its programme that the fireworks are a donation from the residents, despite it being the costliest administration in history, demonstrating the utmost disregard for our community.”
