SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 4 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Local Police in Santa Cruz de Tenerife has announced that during the surveillance initiative conducted by the DGT from August 19 to 25, in coordination with the municipal security forces, 1,386 checks were executed resulting in 11 positive alcohol tests and 11 positive drug tests.

Officers performed a total of 1,287 alcohol assessments, leading to legal actions in 11 cases for exceeding the limit of 0.25 milligrams per litre of exhaled air.

Such transgressions may incur penalties of up to six months in prison and a driving ban for up to four years. Additionally, two of the vehicles inspected were recorded for traffic safety offences.

The Local Police’s initiatives took place across various streets within the municipality at different times, with 99 drug assessments performed, yielding 11 positive results; six for cocaine and five for cannabis.

The Councillor for Road Safety, Gladis de León, underscored the significance of these campaigns promoted by the DGT and commended the ongoing efforts of the Local Police aimed at “enhancing the safety of all users on the streets, including pedestrians, drivers, and passengers, thereby reducing road incidents and their unfortunate consequences.”
