SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 4 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Governing Board of the Cabildo de Tenerife has approved the announcement of language immersion scholarships for students enrolled in Compulsory Secondary Education and Baccalaureate programmes for the academic years 2025-2026 and 2026-2027, amounting to 3.8 million euros.

These scholarships provide opportunities for students to study languages in Canada, Ireland, the United States, and France through three distinct modalities, which encompass both annual and quarterly stays.

Addressing the media, the president of the corporation, Rosa Dávila, emphasised that they are “investing in the future” of Tenerife, as every euro dedicated to education is “an investment in a society that is better prepared, more competitive, and better connected to the world.”

This year, notably, 50 students from Tenerife have completed Spain’s inaugural international dual baccalaureate programme located in the United States and Canada.

The scholarship types available include annual scholarships and quarterly scholarships, designed for students in the 3rd year of ESO for the 2025/2026 academic year, as well as dual scholarships, aimed at students in the 4th year of ESO for the same academic period.

Applications can be submitted until October 11, 2024 (inclusive), with a total of 340 positions available.

Additionally, the Vice President of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Lope Afonso, shared updates on agreements made on Social Action, including the approval of an amendment to the annex of nominative subsidies for 2024, which raises its budget by 1,181,986.01 euros.

“This amendment increases the total budget for this annex to 8,166,627.91 euros, enabling enhanced support for vital social projects,” he remarked.

Furthermore, in light of the rising number of minors in vulnerable situations, the Governing Board has approved an expansion of the residential care network by adding 17 additional beds, “representing an investment of four million euros, leading to the establishment of two new centres on the island—one focusing on adolescent care and the other specialising in services for varying age groups,” the vice president explained.

IMPROVEMENTS IN THE GÜÍMAR INDUSTRIAL ESTATE

In the realm of Industry, the Council has granted approval for the contract concerning the adaptation of garden spaces, roads, and footpaths within the Güímar industrial estate, valued at 266,533.52 euros, with a completion timeframe of four months.

The project encompasses cleaning roads and pavements, clearing vegetation, applying ecological herbicides, and generally enhancing green spaces. This initiative is regarded as the initial phase of a comprehensive plan designed to improve this environment, with the Council investing approximately one million euros.

In relation to the Animal Sector, the Governing Board approved the contract for executing the work outlined in the project aimed at rehabilitating the warehouses utilized for the reception, processing, storage, and marketing of potatoes in Benijos, located in La Orotava municipality.

This initiative carries a budget of 641,642.62 euros with a planned execution period of nine months. It is the first of three projects, which cumulatively amount to nearly two million euros, that the Cabildo aims to advance within this infrastructure to enhance resources for farmers on the island’s northern side.

In the field of Culture and Museums, the Council has authorised the redistribution of annual payments along with an increase in funding allocated for the restoration and enhancement of the Guimerá Theatre in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, as part of the Cultural Infrastructure Plan 2016. This totals approximately 4.1 million euros, covering half of the project’s cost (with the remainder being the responsibility of the City Council).
