The Cabildo de Tenerife inaugurates its nativity scene inspired by the Hebrew style

The Tenerife Council The traditional nativity scene that every year is located at the main entrance of the Insular Palace has inaugurated today Monday and that can be visited until next January 6, following all security measures against the Covid-19 and with limited capacity.

The president of the Cabildo, Pedro Martin, explained that this nativity scene “is the recognition of tradition; we want to value everything that takes us to past generations and is a good opportunity to do so, with a custom that is part of our culture and our tradition.”

“With this act we welcome Christmas and we do so with the confidence that next year we will finally have turned the page in this pandemic. I hope that the people of Tenerife and of Tenerife enjoy this artistic work, and also the thousands of people who they will visit us in the next few days, “added Martín.

The nativity scene will remain open every day from 09:00 to 15:00 and from 16:00 to 21:30, except on December 24 and 31, when the hours will be from 09:00 to 15:00; December 25, January 1 and January 6, from 4:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

The installation, which occupies 25 square meters, is characterized by its biblical style, also called Hebrew or Palestinian, whose landscapes, characters and furnishings reveal the customs that existed in Palestine at the time of Christ’s birth. In it you will be able to appreciate each and every one of the intricacies, corners, stairs, fountain and endless different perspectives of this historical representation of the city.

For his part, the author of the nativity scene, Jesus GilHe explained that “this year we are presenting a closed nativity scene, with a theater-like dullness, the best way to make the staging as real as possible. It is a biblical style portal that aims to reproduce a piece of Palestine as faithfully as possible. ”

Likewise, Gil took advantage of the occasion to “dedicate it to our La Palma brothers because of how bad they are going through, that it be a kind of prayer to heaven so that the situation changes and they can resume their life from before.”

The emeritus technician of the Casa Lercaro History Museum and coordinator of the Cabildo nativity scenes, Juan de la Cruz Rodríguez, also highlighted the 33 years that the Cabildo has been making the nativity scene and highlighting that during these years “they have collaborated with this Nativity the best nativity scenes who help preserve our traditions in this way. ”

THE AUTHOR

The work of Jesús Gil and his team allows us to glimpse the quality of this nativity scene expert who, since his childhood, has been concerned with improving himself.

Jesús Gil is a civil servant, musician and reference in this art, producing during his career several works for churches, associations and public institutions such as the Presidency of the Government of the Canary Islands or the Island Council of Tenerife.

He has been making the municipal nativity scene for the La Laguna City Council and the Rosario City Council for more than fifteen consecutive years. Likewise, it has made the municipal nativity scene for the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council and that of Cajasiete. Another of the occupations he has is giving workshops throughout the island.
