Santa Cruz trusts that the celebration of the twelfth edition of Plenilunio, on December 4 and 5, will give the capital the necessary impetus to consolidate itself on the path of recovery. Almost a hundred events spread over 16 enclaves of the city, each of them with its corresponding COVID contingency plan, becomes the first large mass celebration hosted by Santa Cruz after the pandemic. The Los Lavaderos Art Room hosted the presentation of this energizing meeting, and did so by becoming an example on a scale of what citizens will be able to find in the city this weekend, with music of all kinds, theater or children’s activities . “We will have leisure with sports, culture, fashion, children’s activities, from eleven in the morning until twelve at night, with spaces distributed between the García Sanabria park and Anaga avenue and between the Maritime Park and the Almeyda Museum” , explained the mayor, José Manuel Bermúdez.
The mayor called on citizens to set an example of responsibility, just as the City Council does with the Plenilunio organization. “As capital we have to be an example in this, making an effort to control capacity, traceability and with responsibility, it is not what we want, which is a city full of people in an orderly chaos of coming and going, but it is what plays and we have done so ”.
Bermúdez defended that Santa Cruz is entering the path of recovery and it is necessary “to begin to enjoy the things we lost in the pandemic, and we do so with the largest calendar of activities that has ever been organized in the city.”
The mayor of Fiestas, Alfonso Cabello, explained that “we will have 26 hours of activities in those 16 spaces to try to leave behind a very bad year, especially for the world of culture.” There will be 800 people linked to work on the two days of Full Moon and all the programming can be found on the web www.pleniluniosantacruz.com.
As explained by Cabello, “most of the spaces will be limited, so there will be a count of people to control the capacity, so that when it is full, access will be closed.” “This way,” he continued, “we avoid that reservations can be made and then people do not go, everything is done on the fly.” Furthermore, “in spaces where there are chairs, such as those where theatrical functions are represented, the person will have a QR code on their chair, so that when they enter and sit down, they will read the code with their mobile and there it will be registered, which will help us with traceability ”. There will be staff to help viewers to do this.
Mobility will also be important that weekend. Thus, as the Councilor for Security, Evelyn Alonso, advanced, the city car parks will offer discounts, and the Interchange car park, “will allow free parking for four hours in combination with the use of a bus or tram.” In addition, “there will be extra services from Titsa and Metropolitano, and in the latter case the tram will operate uninterruptedly throughout the weekend.”
Programming
The program includes some activities such as the Chicharrock Fest, the sustainable urban sociocultural sports festival that will combine sport, music and art and will be held from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. both days, or the Alisios Festival Pop, which will start on Sunday at 17.00 hours. All these musical activities can be witnessed in the area of the esplanade of Avenida Marítima.
As usual, this edition will also have a gastronomic space, located in the García Sanabria Park that will be open to the public from eleven in the morning to twelve at night. This restaurant area, in which some establishments such as La Esquina de Gamonal, Soko, Aiko Restaurante, Crepería Le Monde and Gourmet Pizza Party participate, as well as food trucks such as La Pendeja or Frida, will coexist with a fashion market in which local designers, boutiques, decoration stores, natural cosmetics, children’s fashion, jewelry, beauty and furniture will be present, as well as some varied musical performances that will take place throughout the day. This space will have access control.
In the Plaza del Príncipe there will be circus performances and concerts from eleven in the morning to 12 at night, divided into two sections: the first from eleven to one focusing on the part of the circus world show, and the second in the afternoon, starting at 5:00 p.m., focused on musical programming, which will feature performances by Los Vándalos, Syntagma and Fran Baraja, among others.
With regard to children’s leisure there will be activities for the enjoyment and fun of the little ones in the Alameda del Duque de Santa Elena area, which will feature theatrical performances during the two days: Habemus Teatro, Komba Producciones or Timaginas Teatro, They are among some of the companies that will represent different works aimed at a more adult audience. Also in the Plaza de la Candelaria area there will be a children’s playroom with a Christmas theme and musical and puppet shows aimed at the youngest members of the family.
The Plaza de España will have a traditional market and a special area dedicated to Canarian traditions. In it you will be able to witness musical performances of Canarian parrandas, as well as exhibitions of traditional Canarian games. Meanwhile, Antonio Domínguez Alfonso Street will feature acoustic and classical music performances in the space attached to the Tower of the Church of La Concepción. These musical activities will run from 11:00 to 17:00 and from 19:00 to 21:00.
The ten open spaces are closed by the Plaza de San Francisco and the Plaza del Chicharro, places where musical performances will coexist to generate an atmosphere in the restaurant areas, among which the performance of the Tenerife Musicians Tribe, the group of musicians and street artists who have come together promoting the cultural movement of the city, and who will be together with other artists promoting the festive atmosphere of the city.
In addition to the open spaces that will be delimited areas, with capacity and security limitations, there will also be a series of itinerant performances that will run through different streets in the downtown area of Santa Cruz. Animation activities will be carried out in movement through the main pedestrian streets where the event takes place: Castillo street (from Tip Top) to Plaza de la Candelaria; Pérez Galdós street – Valentín Sanz street – Castillo street – Plaza de la Candelaria; Imeldo Serís Street (from Pza. Victims of Terrorism) – Valentín Sanz Street – Castillo Street; Francisco La Roche Avenue.
This twelfth edition of Plenilunio Santa Cruz also includes activities in some closed venues that will have their own programming, such as the Carnival House, the La Recova Art Center, the Market of Our Lady of Africa, the Museum of Nature and Archeology, the Museum Military History of the Canary Islands, Capitanía Palace and the Tenerife Espacio de las Artes. In all these places all kinds of activities will take place such as workshops, guided tours, concerts, theatrical activities or activities of retrogaming.
It should be noted that all the venues comply with the current regulations against the spread of Covid-19, which is why the areas have limited capacity and are duly perimeter.
