The Arona City Council has initiated an evaluation of the local playgrounds and recreational spaces with the objective of refurbishing, updating, and equipping them with new equipment.
The PSOE in Arona expressed concerns last Wednesday regarding the unsatisfactory state of the children’s parks and recreational areas within the municipality. Its spokesperson, José Julián Mena, remarked that “in 15 months, no action has been taken, and the cracks, holes, uneven pavements, along with the deterioration of the furniture and gardens, are lamentable.” The former mayor concluded his statements by asserting that “the residents of Arona do not deserve this Government.” In contrast, councillor Haridian Cruz urged the municipal Government to “reconsider the proposal submitted by the PSOE a few months ago, which was dismissed, to establish shaded areas.”
In response to the Socialist Group’s claims, the first deputy mayor and acting mayor, Clari Pérez, expressed her “deep” regrets yesterday that “some of the parks exhibit signs of decay and obsolescence”, although she claimed that this situation is a result of “years of disregard and poor planning during the previous PSOE administration, which neglected not only the parks but also the pavements, walkways, gardens, and green spaces due to the lack of tenders for essential services”.
Pérez acknowledges the “urgent necessity” to take action in certain areas, prompting the commencement of an assessment that “will enable us to advance with the refurbishment and modernisation of all the children’s parks and recreational areas in the municipality”.
Clari Pérez herself travelled to Pamplona and Madrid to participate in the National Congress of Public Parks and Gardens as well as the International Fair of Urban Planning and the Environment, “with the intention of discovering solutions to the current condition of children’s parks in the municipality of Arona.”
