SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 28 Aug. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Rosa Dávila, announced on Wednesday the initiation of the deployment of the Intelligent Emergency Management System, specifically in the early warning mode for forest hazards, at the Los Topos surveillance tower in Vilaflor.

During a press briefing to outline the decisions made by the Government Council, she noted that this location facilitates monitoring of a pine forest of “immense ecological significance” which utilizes various systems for surveillance.

The Council has identified a total of six sites, and for Los Topos, there will be a dual camera system to detect sources of heat and smoke, alongside a 360º sensor system that provides information on humidity levels and water in the ponds, in addition to the IAC’s Drago camera which offers satellite data.

The comprehensive system is equipped with up to five different types of alerts: forest fires, seismic activity, volcanic activity, hydrological risks, and adverse weather conditions. The agreement reached on Wednesday pertains to acquiring the necessary software for its implementation.

Dávila expressed disappointment over the “waste of funds” by the PSOE-CS island administration during the previous term, estimating the loss at six million euros, and highlighted that the new Executive is now “very committed” to advancing the programme.
