SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 28 Aug. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The head of the Cabildo of Tenerife, Rosa Dávila, has commended this Wednesday the tour undertaken by the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, across various African nations, stating that he was “compelled” to do so in light of the “significant influx” of small vessels and canoes anticipated on the islands this autumn, particularly with departures from Mauritania, due to improved maritime conditions.

In a press briefing to communicate the resolutions made by the Government Council, she emphasised that the migration crisis “is a national issue, not merely a Canary Islands concern,” and therefore believes that Sánchez must “acknowledge his responsibilities” as President of the Government and negotiate with the nations that send migrants to ensure an “effective response” to the “tragedy” occurring on the shores of the archipelago.

Dávila also lauded the efforts of the President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, who “with considerable determination and persistence” has been able to “highlight the very serious issue that the Canary Islands face with this humanitarian crisis, which Pedro Sánchez and his Government have repeatedly sought to avoid acknowledging.”

In this context, she stated that “it is not solely financial resources that are crucial,” although she recognised that the Canarian Government is set to allocate approximately 150 million this year for the care of unaccompanied migrant children.
