The premier craft fair in the Canary Islands will once again take place in the neighbourhood orotavanse of Pinolere, featuring around 200 artisans from across the Canary Islands. This event is scheduled for the 6th to the 8th of September, and alongside the numerous craft stalls and the opportunity to discover authentic artistic treasures, attendees can partake in Canarian cuisine, educational workshops, tastings, exhibitions, tributes, performances, competitions, and many other engaging activities that form an intriguing programme, as is customary with each iteration.
It is anticipated that during the weekend, over 20,000 visitors will flock to the Pinolere ethnographic site, nestled in a distinctive natural setting in the eponymous neighbourhood. As a result, local authorities and the organisation itself recommend utilising the bus service for attending the exhibition. While there is a designated parking area and traffic management is in place with various security measures, opting for public transport is advised for convenience, helping to avoid unnecessary queues and the hassle of parking.
A meeting concerning security was convened at the town hall recently, led by Narciso Pérez, the area supervisor, and attended by representatives from the Pinolere Cultural Association, the Local Police, and Civil Protection. The purpose was to evaluate and modify various control measures including traffic regulation, hence the implementation of a dedicated lane for public services once more.
A complimentary bus service is available for the fair, running from Friday the 6th to Sunday the 8th of September. The bus stop will be located at number 20 Avenida Sor Soledad Cobián, departing every hour (on the hour) from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Return journeys from the park will be at half-past the hour. At this same departure point in Sor Soledad Cobián, tickets can be purchased for €3, allowing attendees to benefit from free public transport to board the bus, thus circumventing the queues.
The Department of Security has collaborated over the past months with the Pinolere Cultural Association to guarantee safety at this large-scale fair. The Pinolere ethnographic site will be equipped with comprehensive security and protection measures, as in previous years, along with a permanent health service. The Local Police of La Orotava will implement a considerable presence, assigning personnel to the area continuously who will not only assist with site security but also manage traffic in the vicinity.
The official opening ceremony of the fair is set for Friday the 6th at 1:00 p.m., although the venue will welcome visitors from 10:00 a.m. This year’s edition focuses on the craftsmanship related to traditional Canarian games and toys. Following the ceremony, awards will be presented: the Cho Feriantes de Honor 2024, and the XXI Premio Artesanía y Patrimonio Villa de La Orotava 2024. Throughout the weekend, there will be workshops for children, exhibitions, book launches, tributes, and more…
The organisation of this Fair is backed by public administrations such as the Tenerife Island Council and La Orotava City Council, alongside support from private enterprises.
