SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 28 Aug. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The head of the Tenerife Island Council, Rosa Dávila, expressed her agreement this Wednesday with the Transport Minister, Óscar Puente, in condemning the “inefficient handling” of the governments of Ángel Víctor Torres and Pedro Martín during the previous term concerning the development of the southern train.
During a press briefing to discuss the resolutions of the Government Council, she ironically remarked that she did not “anticipate” the minister to “assail” two colleagues from his party (PSOE) with such “venom” in an interview conducted for the Prensa Ibérica publications in the Canary Islands, emphasising that it was Martín who “halted” the train initiative.
Dávila highlighted her “excellent” relationship with Puente, stating that the ministry and the Council are collaborating closely to “revive what was halted over the past four years.”
“Our aim is not to dwell on the past; I have maintained this position from the very start. Instead, we must focus on the future, working alongside the minister, who has reached out to us to ensure effective management unlike what was exhibited during the last four years under the socialist governing body,” she remarked.
Consequently, she insisted on the urgency to “make up for lost time” and that the stagnation over these four years “should not undermine the advancement of sustainable connectivity and the significant green revolution necessary in Tenerife to prevent traffic from continuing to hinder mobility on the island.”
The spokesperson for the Popular Party, José Carlos Acha, characterised Puente’s interview as “surreal,” asserting that the railway project was “active” and it was a socialist administration that “stalled” it during the previous term.
