The President of the Canary Islands Government, Fernando Clavijo, engaged in discussions this Tuesday with the President of Ceuta, Juan Jesús Vivas, where they highlighted the necessity for political “cohesion” to tackle the migration crisis impacting both regions, particularly due to the overcrowding of the reception system for unaccompanied migrant minors.
“Today I spoke with the President of Ceuta, Juan Jesús Vivas, and we concurred on the importance of addressing the migration situation collectively to secure the support of other State administrations, enabling us to respond as a nation,” he noted on his ‘X’ profile.
Vivas also requested “assistance” this Tuesday, pointing out that the autonomous city “has depleted its budget for the entire year” concerning the care of minors, attributed to the surge in arrivals in recent days.
In response to this predicament, Vivas has called for the engagement of the entire Government and autonomous communities.
“This is a national issue, transcending political affiliations, temporary circumstances, and partisan interests,” he articulated, highlighting the “incredibly overwhelming” circumstances confronting the city with over 500 unaccompanied minors, as reported in an interview on TVE and relayed by Europa Press.
