The Department of Works and Infrastructure of La Laguna City Council, in collaboration with the joint venture Teidagua, has wrapped up this week the enhancement work on the sewage system serving the vicinity of Plaza del Cristo. These efforts, which commenced on the 5th of this month, aim to address several issues previously recorded in the pipes of the area, as reported by the council yesterday.
Mayor of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, stated yesterday, “We have identified and addressed minor obstructions in this service network over the past few months. However, we decided to wait until this time of year to carry out an intervention of this scale, considering the reduced traffic due to the holiday period affecting some businesses and numerous schools in the municipality.”
The local councillor elaborated that “initial investigations revealed that the issue stemmed from various electric conduits which had diminished water flow and led to minor collapses in the manhole on Quintín Benito Street.” As a result, “these connections have been rerouted, and the installation has been cleared of any potential collapses that could result in future blockages and complications,” he added.
Furthermore, Ángel Chinea, the Councillor for Works and Water Supply in La Laguna, mentioned that once these works were finalized, Quintín Benito Street was reopened to vehicles; this was the sole road impacted by these activities, “even though we initially projected a higher number of traffic disruptions for vehicles in the Plaza de El Cristo area,” he noted.

Moreover, the Public Works and Infrastructure team of La Laguna City Council has utilised this project to apply a fresh layer of tarmac to this route near the city centre.
Additionally, the Teidagua company plans to conduct a thorough cleaning of the pipelines in the upcoming days with an external cistern, ensuring that no sediment or residue could lead to problems within the network.
