SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 23 Aug. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Government of the Canary Islands, via the Vice-Ministry of Foreign Action and as proposed by the General Directorate of Foreign Relations, is financing 31 projects across 16 nations, which are being carried out by NGOs located in the Canary Islands. This was detailed in a resolution published this Friday in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands, relating to the public call for the year 2024.

According to its head, José Luis Perestelo, “a budget of €1,850,537.10 has been allocated for this initiative, reflecting the Government’s commitment to support the efforts made by these organisations for the welfare of other communities living in conditions of extreme vulnerability.”

Specifically, initiatives are underway in countries neighbouring the archipelago, including Gambia, Mauritania, Morocco, and Cape Verde, as well as in nations with significant connections, like Venezuela, where the need for improved social and healthcare services is paramount.

Perestelo further mentions that “we have also considered projects in various parts of the globe where the deficiencies affecting the population are substantial, such as Guatemala, Bolivia, Sierra Leone, Indonesia, El Salvador, Ecuador, Cameroon, Mali, Guinea Bissau, Uruguay, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and the Ivory Coast.”

In this regard, the aims of the programmes, according to the general director Miossoty Pardelo, “are geared towards enabling better access to healthcare for the population, promoting literacy among many individuals, and developing agricultural projects; all of which contribute to an enhancement of the quality of life and ensure that they can pursue a life project.”
