Oktoberfest Relocates to Historic Fishing Dock in Puerto de la Cruz

This year, the traditional Bavarian Week and Oktoberfest are relocating to Calle Las Lonjas, the former fishing dock in Puerto de la Cruz, due to potential complications arising from events at Plaza Europa, which could exacerbate the issues with the car park that has been closed since mid-March because of structural concerns.

In light of this, the Centre for Initiatives and Tourism (CIT), in conjunction with the City Council, is making adaptations to ensure that both locals and visitors can continue to revel in Spain’s oldest Beer Festival, set to occur next weekend on 29, 30, and 31 August. This event will take place in an open area with free entry, specially arranged to provide enjoyment through delightful music along with German and Tenerife culinary delights.

This announcement was made yesterday during the unveiling of the 51st edition at the Atlantic Hills hotel by CIT president Juan José Hernández, mayor Leopoldo Afonso, Tenerife Tourism CEO Dimple Melwani, Councillor for Tourism Desirée Díaz, and Yeray Ramos and Antonio Schweigel, who represent marketing and the Paulaner brand in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, as well as Schauinsland-reisen, the official sponsor of the event.

The Bavarian Week features a series of concerts across various hotel venues. Festivities kick off on Sunday 25 August at the Costa Martiánez Tourist Complex, followed by a performance from the German orchestra at the Hotel Atlantic Hills on Tuesday 27. The next day, a historic tour with the German orchestra will take place on the Loro Parque train, concluding with an evening performance at the Hotel Precise Resort Tenerife.

This year’s edition will culminate on 1 September with a concert at the Edén Holiday Park. The festivities will showcase the Reinheitsgebot and Blechbuckel orchestras, who have travelled from different regions in Germany to present the traditional folklore of their homeland live.

The mayor expressed enthusiasm for celebrating another instalment of this remarkable Festival, organised by the CIT, which energises our city through collaboration with industry professionals while offering significant cultural experiences for our community.

Juan José Hernández additionally expressed hope that the traditional Oktoberfest, now an essential fixture within Puerto de la Cruz’s festive calendar, will, as in previous years, generate “a robust turnout and fulfil the expectations of a very specific audience seeking diverse entertainments.”
