La Victoria de Acentejo is gearing up to host one of the most eagerly awaited occasions of the year: the 43rd Pilgrimage in honour of San Isidro Labrador. This celebration, which has become the busiest of the Patron Saint Festivities, is set to occur next Saturday, 24 August, commencing at 5:00 pm, with the departure point being the Cruz de El Tagoro.
Approximately 20 folk groups are anticipated to participate, filling the streets with vibrant music and dance, sharing their exuberance with all attendees.
Moreover, it is projected that about 100 festively decorated vehicles and 12 wagons accompanied by teams will be featured in the lively parade that will follow the traditional route to El Calvario.
Additionally, following the event, a Charity Raffle will be organised in the Town Hall Square, which will culminate in offerings to San Isidro Labrador and Holy Mass at the Parish of Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación.
Following this, there will be an Afternoon Dance with Elicio on the esplanade outside the Town Hall, along with a disco at Las Cantinas in the Plaza del Pino, continuing until 5:00 am.
An event that transforms the town
The Romería de San Isidro Labrador transcends a mere celebration. It is an occasion that effectively transforms La Victoria de Acentejo.
Residents, tourists, and local businesses adjust their schedules to fully embrace this unique day, highlighting the deep-seated roots that this tradition holds within the community.
In conjunction with the Queen’s Election Gala, the pilgrimage stands as one of the most cherished and highly anticipated events of the year. The local populace immerses themselves in this celebration, showcasing their religious devotion and affection for their traditions.
The mayor of La Victoria de Acentejo, Juan Antonio García Abreu, has emphasised the significance of maintaining these customs and has welcomed everyone to partake in this magnificent festival. “This Saturday, we look forward to welcoming you to what is the premier pilgrimage event of the Acentejo region in the summer, serving as a gathering point for families and friends from other municipalities.”
