La Laguna is reopening its bathing areas this Tuesday after having ordered their closure yesterday and having proceeded to the evacuation of users who were in the different areas by Civil Protection in the municipality due to the strong waves that were hitting the coast.
The natural pools of Bajamar and Punta del Hidalgo, and the coastal areas of Jover and La Barranquera were thus closed since the afternoon of Monday, August 19, as a precautionary measure.
Following an improvement in the state of the sea, the Councillor for Beaches and Swimming Pools, Ángel Miguel Hernández Chinea, has announced that the natural pools have been reopened and green flags have been raised, indicating safe conditions for swimming, while the yellow flag remains in place on the beaches, which allows swimming but with caution.
However, given the weather forecast, the councillor does not rule out a new closure if the waves again pose a risk to citizens.
Authorities are urging bathers to remain cautious as conditions are expected to change throughout the day due to high tide, which could necessitate further restrictions.
Coastal Recommendations
In light of the deteriorating state of the sea and to mitigate risks, it is advisable to postpone aquatic or sporting activities and avoid swimming on isolated or unsupervised beaches.
Furthermore, should you observe unusual waves, it is crucial to keep a safe distance from the shoreline, regardless of how calm it may seem momentarily.
To prevent finding yourself in a hazardous situation, it is imperative to abstain from standing on piers and jetties, or lingering in locations close to the sea where you might be struck or swept away by the waves.
For safety reasons, please bear in mind that swimming is banned on beaches marked with a red flag, and it is essential to always heed the instructions of lifeguards and rescue personnel.
In case of any emergency, it is vital to promptly call 112 to request assistance.
