Diving Tourism Shift: El Cabrón Closure Boosts Tenerife and Lanzarote

The announcement from the Gran Canarian Council regarding the closure of access to diving locations within the natural reserve of El Cabrón since February, aimed at restoring this protected area, has sparked dissatisfaction among professionals in the industry. They are reporting losses amounting to “thousands of euros” along with a significant number of cancellations from diving tourists headed to Gran Canaria, many of whom are now opting for the islands of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura instead. Individual sports enthusiasts argue that “there are barely any remaining places to dive, despite the fact that we are the ones committed to caring for the environment. The issue lies with others.”
