SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 19th August (EUROPA PRESS) –
The National Police have apprehended a 38-year-old individual who absconded from custody after being released for allegedly perpetrating a violent robbery against a taxi driver in Los Realejos (Tenerife).
In a communiqué, the Canary Islands Police Headquarters detailed that the incident took place last July, when a taxi driver from Puerto de la Cruz, at approximately 8:20 a.m., collected the suspect, who requested transport to the municipality of Los Realejos.
Upon arrival at his destination, the now detained man instructed the taxi driver to halt the vehicle, seizing the moment to pick up a stone from the ground. Upon returning to the cab, he assaulted the taxi driver with the stone, delivering a strong blow to the head at the temple, in addition to employing a strangulation technique known as the ‘mataleón’ to subsequently make off with the taxi driver’s earnings.
Consequently, the assault left the taxi driver with severe injuries, including open wounds to his head that necessitated seven stitches and two staples.
Following the identification of the suspect, the National Police proceeded to arrest him and subsequently handed him over to the judicial authority, who mandated his imprisonment.
