The Tacoronte Farmer’s Market is moved to a temporary tent for works

The Tacoronte Farmer’s Market moved this Saturday for works to a provisional tent, located right in front of its usual headquarters. This temporary move is necessary for the execution of the works to replace the roof of the market, which has now completed 40 years. The president of the Mercadillo Association, José Ángel García Rodríguez, stresses that “many partners have valued this transfer as a challenge and an incentive, since they are aware that the facilities that are being renovated will be much better than before.”

García adds that «the important thing is that the activity continues, because lMost farmers make a living from this and cannot miss or afford a weekend without sales, and much less at this time ».

The temporary tent will host 60 stalls with the best of the area’s countryside, as well as pastries, bread and the rest of the products that are offered each week. The offer is maintained, but the farmers who had double exhibitors “have made the effort to group their merchandise into one”, García acknowledges.

The works have already begun and the estimated calculation for its conclusion is about 20 more days. Those affected consider that the provisional measure adopted is positive “because it allows partners to continue coming and selling their products to customers.”

The mayor of Tacoronte, José Daniel Díaz Armas (NC), highlights that the Consistory has had to carry out “an important mobilization of technical resources” to make this move possible. «With the necessary conditions to welcome some 5,000 people every weekend, with comfort, parking capacity and in a very close, safe place adapted to health requirements ”.

The tacorontero president recalls that “from the beginning it was insisted that this measure take place in the same area and with the same spaces, and it is only eight meters from the usual facilities.” Díaz adds that the projected work, which has a budget of 240,000 euros, plans to replace the current roof, which contains asbestos, with another made of a light, safe, bright and efficient material from an insulating point of view. The pavement will also be changed. Antonio Gil Goya, Councilor for Works and Services, trusts that the first market in Tenerife can reopen at its usual headquarters with the start of next year 2022.
