The City Council of Granadilla de Abona has launched a call for tenders for the development of the plan for the new cultural hub in El Médano, with an estimated cost of 51,071 Euros. This upcoming venue will be situated in a pedestrianised area surrounded by Carmen Nóbrega, El Confital, and Francisco Cruz streets. It will comprise the construction of a three-storey building that will include diverse multipurpose classrooms for activities such as a library, cultural events, concerts, theatre performances, conferences, exhibitions, and other cultural activities.
The mayor of the city, Jennifer Miranda of the Socialist Party, emphasises that this project entails a noteworthy investment in enhancing the cultural facilities in El Médano, a location that has observed substantial population growth over recent decades. Despite this growth, the area currently lacks adequate cultural amenities to cater to the requirements of its residents, as indicated by the municipal government itself.
Miranda highlights that the establishment of this cultural centre addresses a demand from the community, representing the current municipal administration’s dedication to investing in the cultural and social aspects of the municipality for both the present and future.
The initiative is part of a broader scheme of investments planned for the forthcoming years to reinforce the public services and infrastructure of the town, as articulated by the coalition of the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE) and People’s Party (PP).
The novel El Médano centre will necessitate the removal of the existing structure that houses the music school to make room for the contemporary three-storey building. This fresh construction will incorporate study areas, rooms for various activities, and multipurpose spaces that can accommodate theatrical performances, conferences, exhibitions, and intimate concerts. The infrastructure is also designed to operate as a focal point for the community, promoting all forms of art and culture, to the benefit of residents and tourists alike.
The Councillor for Public Works and Municipal Services, Marcos Antonio Rodríguez, affirms that the development of this cultural establishment in El Médano meets a long-standing request from the local populace, who will witness the realisation of their rightful plea for a respectable cultural venue.
Rodríguez asserts that the project will adhere to the utmost sustainability standards, notably incorporating environmental conservation areas, the planting of trees, and the integration of landscaped spaces to mitigate the project’s environmental impact.
