SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 15th August (EUROPA PRESS) –

The City Council of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, via the Autonomous Culture Body (OAC), will commence the registration period for the five municipal workshops for the academic year 2024/2025 at 8:00 a.m. on Friday. The guidelines and regulations can be viewed on the announcement section of the City Council’s website. The deadline for submitting documentation is until 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, 10th September.

The Mayor of Santa Cruz, José Manuel Bermúdez, has expressed that these workshops “undoubtedly present an opportunity for those interested in delving into or honing their skills in these forms of art, which can be pursued as a hobby or a potential source of income.”

Councilor for Culture, Santiago Díaz Mejías, encourages everyone to enrol in these workshops, as they are highly sought after every year with the goal of bringing culture in all its forms to individuals of all ages, both young and adults. He further added, “The Autonomous Organism for Culture is dedicated to preserving all forms of artistic expression.”

The typography workshop will offer 12 spots, the graphic arts workshop 36, the ceramics workshop 36, the theatre workshop 45, and the drawing workshop 17. Discounts will be available for large families, individuals over 65, individuals with disabilities over 33%, students up to 26 years old, and the unemployed.

The primary objective of this initiative is to raise awareness about typography in an engaging manner, through educational and cultural activities for professionals, design students, and art enthusiasts of all ages. The intention is to preserve and promote the typographic heritage in the Canary Islands, especially on Tenerife, and establish a space dedicated to the traditional craft of typography.

Participants will learn to design and execute artistic projects using typography, exploring printing and design techniques from the past while adapting to modern market demands.

The graphic arts workshop aims to equip participants with the necessary skills to employ traditional graphic techniques (intaglio, relief printing, and lithography) utilising various materials such as metal (zinc, copper), wood, aluminium, and plastics. Various graphic techniques will be explored, including drypoint, etching, aquatint, soft ground etching, mezzotint, collagraph, woodcut, linocut, among others, catering to all levels of proficiency.

The Traditional Ceramics Workshop aims to provide a recreational activity that satisfies the artistic and creative interests of participants, promoting ceramic art by offering foundational knowledge to beginners and supporting those looking to further their expertise.

The workshop will be divided into three segments: a general instructional session for beginners, a supervised workshop for independent learners with prior knowledge, and a Canarian ceramics workshop focusing on coil techniques for crafting pre-Hispanic and traditional Canarian pottery.

The Theatre Workshop aims to stimulate and develop students’ perceptual, intellectual, emotional, intuitive, and artistic abilities, centred around thematic areas of body movement, oral and dramatic expression, theatre theory, and practical stage experience.

Designed for individuals with an artistic inclination, the Drawing Workshop aims to cultivate expressive abilities, personal creativity as a means of comprehensive education and self-realisation. Participants of all levels can join this ongoing workshop, with group-focused yet personalised attention.
