SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 14th August (EUROPA PRESS) –

The president of the Cabildo of Tenerife, Rosa Dávila, and the mayor of Candelaria, Mari Brito, paid a visit today, Wednesday, to the temporary hospital set up in preparation for the celebrations of the Virgin of Candelaria, scheduled to take place over the next two days, expecting an attendance of around 100,000 people in the Villa Mariana.

Rosa Dávila and Mari Brito were joined by the Minister for the Environment, Sustainability, Security and Emergencies, Blanca Pérez; the Minister for Employment and Education, Efraín Medina; the Island Director for the Environment, Pedro Millán, and the Island Director for Security and Emergencies, Iván Martín, alongside members of the Red Cross.

Dávila stated that the hospital’s purpose is to ensure the safety and well-being of the numerous pilgrims who come to honour the Virgin of Candelaria. “This medical facility would not have been possible without the collaboration and combined efforts of several institutions, and the Cabildo de Tenerife takes pride in having contributed to its funding and establishment,” explained the president.

“Our primary concern is the health and safety of all individuals participating in these celebrations. We understand the significant influx of pilgrims and have bolstered the standard health services by installing this temporary hospital, which, in conjunction with the Candelaria Health Centre, will operate in a coordinated manner to deliver a prompt and efficient response to any emergencies,” detailed Rosa Dávila.

On the other hand, the Mayor of Candelaria expressed gratitude towards all healthcare professionals and support staff for their dedication and commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of everyone during these festivities. She urged the pilgrims to behave responsibly, stay hydrated, adhere to the authorities’ instructions, and seek medical assistance at the temporary hospital if needed.

The security operation for the pilgrimage to Candelaria includes approximately 600 individuals from the Tenerife Island Council, Candelaria Town Hall, Tenerife Firefighters Consortium, Civil Guard, General Directorate of Security and General Directorate of Emergencies of the Government of the Canary Islands, Canary Police, Canary Islands Health Service, CECOES 112, and Canary Islands Emergency Service.

The Red Cross, TITSA, Anaga Emergency Aid, and Civil Protection from the municipalities of Candelaria, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and La Matanza also took part.
