The local council of La Laguna has opened the bidding process for a new contract to maintain and conserve public lighting. This includes handling electrical installations in municipal buildings and for events in the municipality. Companies interested in bidding for the contract can submit their offers until 17th September.
The total value of the contract is 18.73 million Euros (including IGIC) for the next four years. This amounts to an annual payment of 4.68 million Euros, marking a significant increase compared to the previous contract. The previous contract, which ends on 31st August 2024, had an annual value of 3.74 million Euros with no increases since it was awarded on 1st September 2018,” highlighted Fran Hernández, the councillor in charge of Municipal Services.
Hernández stated that the budget adjustment, indicating an increase of approximately 25%, was necessary to cover the rise in the CPI and salary costs over the past six years.
Furthermore, new essential services have been included, such as maintaining and installing photovoltaic plants in municipal buildings and enhancing the network of electric vehicle charging points. This aligns with the municipality’s strong commitment to combat climate change.
To handle these new services, there will be an increase in qualified personnel, with the workforce expanding from 54 to 58 workers. Additional material resources have been introduced to ensure the service’s smooth execution. The fleet of vehicles for these tasks will see the addition of 16 new units, including trucks with buckets, crane trucks, and various vans. This will complement the current 13 vehicles that will continue to be utilized.
The objective of this new contract is to significantly enhance the maintenance of electrical installations, optimizing the public lighting network to provide efficient LED lighting throughout the municipality.
“This enhancement not only reinforces the commitment to environmental sustainability but also guarantees safety in electrical installations of municipal buildings, schools, community centres, and during festive and cultural events in the town,” remarked Hernández.
The councillor emphasized that with this new initiative, the municipality is reaffirming its dedication to energy efficiency and safety, actively contributing to a more sustainable and secure future for all residents.
