SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 13th August (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Ministry of Education, Vocational Training, Physical Activity and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands has granted the contract for the preparation of the essential execution plan for the construction of the San Isidro Compulsory Education Centre (CEO), in the municipality of Granadilla de Abona, Tenerife. It is now a step closer to becoming a reality.

With a budget of 97,716 Euros and a deadline of five months, the contract for the preparation of the plan has been awarded to the company Lumo Arquitectos SL.

The future CEO San Isidro will consist of 21 units for Early Childhood Education (second cycle), Primary and Compulsory Secondary Education, and is part of the action plan for enhancing educational infrastructure in the southern region of Tenerife.

The plan, scheduled to span from 2024 to 2031 and amounting to over 77 million Euros, was unveiled in May by the regional councillor for the area, Poli Suárez. It encompasses approximately thirty initiatives for the region, including the establishment of ten new facilities and the expansion of a further seventeen.

During the launch event, Suárez underlined together with the Director-General of Infrastructure and Equipment, Iván González, the “immediate necessity” to address this zone, recognised as “critical” in educational provision owing to the surge in population it has undergone in recent years. In just two decades, the area’s population has escalated from 146,081 to 317,006 residents, marking a 220 percent rise.

The development of the CEO San Isidro forms just one segment of the broader initiative for Granadilla de Abona. Additionally, the establishment of an Integrated Vocational Training Centre (CIFP) is on the agenda, involving the transfer of a municipal edifice. Furthermore, the enhancement of six other centres is planned, including the Early and Primary Education Centres (CEIP) Abona, Los Abrigos and Froilán Hernández, the latter to incorporate a new cafeteria, as well as the Secondary Education Institutes (IES) El Médano, Los Cardones, and Magallanes, the latter having been recently completed.
