The Arafo City Council has reached a purchase agreement with the owner of a 104-square-meter parcel on Tomás de Mesa Street, in the El Carmen neighborhood, to expand the old school headquarters and build a community center there in Associations such as Mi Barrio El Carmen Se Mueve, the group that has most demanded the expansion of its current premises, will be able to develop their work.
Mayor Juan Ramón Martín comments that this acquisition of the urban land has already been approved with a credit modification in an extraordinary plenary session and that he hopes that before 2023 the community center will be built, for which “we will request financing from the Cabildo for the drafting of the project in 2022 and then fight the financing to be able to execute it throughout 2023 ”, he commented.
“The site would face three streets in the El Carmen neighborhood and the center would be the first of a community nature in Arafo, in which the pro-social association Mi Barrio El Carmen Se Mueve will be immersed, which has always been an example of work and citizen participation in favor of the neighborhood and the municipality in general ”.
José Arnaldo Flores, president of the neighborhood community of El Carmen, stated that “acquiring the land and expanding our headquarters there is the best gift that could come to us on the tenth anniversary of our association.” However, he warned that “we already know what the Administration’s times are like and that new premises will still take a few years,” so he insisted on the need to clean up the current one, with the possibility of raising a roof outside of it. and “gain the space we need”, when they hardly have room to store or carry out the many activities that this group does a year.
