SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 12 Aug. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Island Council of Tenerife will enhance its collaboration with the Santa Cruz Carnival by increasing sponsorship of groups and working closely with the Santa Cruz City Council for the upcoming Carnival edition.
This decision was made during a meeting between the President and Vice President of the Cabildo, Rosa Dávila and Lope Afonso, with the Mayor of Santa Cruz, José Manuel Bermúdez, along with the Vice President of Recinto Ferial, Manuel Fernández.
“This meeting confirms the mutual interest of both administrations in continuing to collaborate to ensure that the Tenerife Carnival remains a major ambassador for our island worldwide,” stated Rosa Dávila.
The President highlighted the significance of the Carnival, which holds the title of ‘Festival of International Tourist Interest,’ not only for its cultural importance but also for its economic contribution.
“The Carnival generates over 38 million Euros, establishing it as a crucial event not only for the Canary Islands but also as a significant global tourist attraction. This underscores the importance of supporting carnivals as one of our key trademarks,” she elaborated.
On his part, Lope Afonso declared that the Cabildo’s goal, through Tenerife Tourism, is to boost the sponsorship of Carnival groups for the upcoming edition of the festival, considering its impact on the entire island’s economy.
He mentioned that the Carnival, as a tourism product, “can benefit from enhanced promotional channels, better audience targeting, and also assist Santa Cruz in enhancing some services within the Carnival program.”
Afonso emphasised that Tenerife Tourism includes the Carnival “as an emblem that aids in promoting the island as a tourist destination at major national and international fairs, providing us with added value and uniqueness in the tourism market.”
The Mayor expressed gratitude to the Cabildo for their dedication and support towards the city’s Carnival, designated as a Festival of International Tourist Interest since 1980, stating that it “significantly contributes to the promotion of Tenerife island itself.”
“We highly appreciate the increased funding for the organisation of the Santa Cruz Carnival and the assistance that the Island Institution will provide to various groups, all of which contribute to enhancing this distinctive festival and promoting it as a tourist hotspot,” he added.
