Puerto de la Cruz City Council announced today that the Tenerife Island Council has begun work to repair a damaged sewer pipe at the regional wastewater treatment plant.
According to a statement, in order to carry out these repairs with the assistance of professional divers, the treatment plant will also start discharging treated water through the spillway. As a result, all water activities in the area are prohibited until further notice.
This preventive measure is being taken today following the results of analyses conducted on July 31 by an authorised company, which confirmed a high level of bacterial contamination in the vicinity of the rupture.
