SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 10th August (EUROPA PRESS) –

On Saturday, the Tenerife Island Council enforced grade 1 measures for forest fire prevention. Lighting fires of any kind, including barbecues, bonfires, stoves, or gas cookers, is strictly prohibited in recreational and outdoor areas.

The use of machinery or tools that can produce sparks (such as brush cutters, welding equipment, or radial saws) and the use of pyrotechnic materials in high-risk areas are also not allowed.

Additionally, smoking is forbidden in recreational areas, camping sites, trails, viewpoints, and other public structures situated in the mountains, as stated by the island council.

This decision has been made considering the weather conditions and the pre-alert issued by the General Directorate of Emergencies of the Canary Islands for high temperatures and forest fire risk.

The Council also advises against entering or staying in the forested areas of the island during the alert period and urges people to take utmost caution in all activities that could potentially lead to fires.

The restrictions stipulated under level 1 forest fire prevention will remain in effect until the alert situation is lifted.
