The Charcos de Valleseco have been selected by the Santa Cruz City Council to host a large party next Monday in celebration of International Youth Day. The event promises to be a fun-filled day with over a dozen recreational activities and entertainment options taking place from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the new bathing area in the city. The activities and music are aimed towards the younger population.

Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez, along with the Youth and Anaga district councillors, Charín González and Gladis de León, unveiled the plans for the celebration yesterday, which will also feature a boat trip to Antequera.

“We want to partake in this celebration and reiterate our commitment to the young people of the municipality, especially on this day. Our dedication to the youth has been demonstrated through initiatives such as the establishment of two youth centres in the past seven years – one in Siliuto and the other in Mascareño, a Youth District programme with numerous weekly activities, and providing 2,700 spots for sports activities and summer camps for the youth,” he emphasised.

The Youth Day programme at Los Charcos will include workshops on skateboarding and paddle surfing, BodyPaint, dance performances, Zumba classes, water activities, street basketball, podcasts, interviews, and music by DJ Sistah Vives. Admission is free for all.

Additionally, the Youth District has arranged a boat excursion to Antequera for the same day. “30 spots are available and are filling up fast, so interested individuals, who must be residents of the municipality, need to register on the Youth District website,” explained Youth Councillor Charín González.

The councillor also made it clear that the celebration is not a one-time event, as the Youth Department engages in activities with young people all year round. She mentioned that “in the last month of July, a total of 765 young people participated in activities at Casa Mascareño, engaging in daily activities, with more than 22 events organised, in addition to the use of the facility and activity rooms. Meanwhile, at Casa Siliuto in El Toscal, 650 young people took part in over 21 scheduled activities aside from those offered at the centre.”
