On Wednesday night, the head of the CC management committee in Puerto de la Cruz, party representative, and councillor who endorsed the no-confidence motion against the PSOE, Alonso Acevedo, issued a notification to local members and supporters informing them that the extraordinary assembly scheduled for today to approve the motion presented with the PP and ACP had been postponed “until further notice.”

The councillor refuted claims yesterday that the postponement was due to objections from activists who do not support the new government for including a party to the left of the PSOE and for not allowing Marco González to govern with a minority. He clarified that the assembly was not called without the required 5 days’ notice because it was considered extraordinary. However, he did not disclose the reasons for the postponement, stating that the assembly will take place after the significant plenary session on the 16th of this month. He expressed confidence in complying with the statutes and dismissed concerns about potential legal challenges.

Alonso argued that holding the extraordinary assembly after the no-confidence motion is executed is entirely feasible, eliminating the need to ratify the decision, even if that was the initial purpose of today’s assembly. Contrary to his position, dissenting members point to articles 4B and 9C of the CC regulations, which state that the now-defunct local committee makes proposals, and it is the general assembly of members that ultimately decides on the government composition. While they doubt any legal action will be taken, they contest the existence of an assembly addressing the no-confidence motion or its deliberation during the May 15 assembly.
