SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 7 Aug. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Canary Islands Government’s Director General of Emergencies, Fernando Figuereo, has approved a protocol that establishes coordination and communication channels between 112 Canarias and the Endesa group’s electricity distribution company in managing Civil Protection incidents where energy supply could be at risk.
The signing of this agreement took place at the Coordination Centre’s operations room in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Present at the event were the general director, the deputy director of Civil Protection and Emergencies of the Government of the Canary Islands, the head of the Civil Protection service, the director of 112 Canarias, and by video conference, the deputy minister of Territorial Cohesion and Water.
Representing the Endesa Group, the signing was attended by the Director of Distribution at the Control Centre, the Director of the Territorial Unit of the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and the Director of Operations and Maintenance for the Canary Islands. The aim of this collaboration is to establish a communication system between the emergency service and the control centres in the Canary Islands of this distribution company. The goal is to provide a prompt and coordinated response to emergencies, thereby reducing the impact of power outages or interruptions on citizens and monitoring the situation until resolution.
As electricity is considered a fundamental service for the population, immediate notification of any serious incidents affecting the service and the activation of Civil Protection plans will be provided by 112 to these coordination centres. This will allow the assessment and mitigation of risks and consequences for their facilities or distribution network in facing potential situations.
Through this mutual communication, the energy company will also notify emergency services to take proactive measures regarding any significant supply contingencies that could impact the local population.
To ensure continuous communication, the General Directorate of Emergencies will provide the ENDESA group’s control centres in the Canary Islands with radio terminals using TETRA technology, integrated into the Canary Islands Emergency and Security Network (RESCAN).
