Officers from the Local Police of La Orotava have today rescued a dog and her nine puppies on a farm in the highlands of the municipality.
While on patrol in the area, officers heard the sounds of dogs howling, prompting them to investigate the source of the noise. They discovered a dog that had recently given birth, tied up with her puppies in poor condition around her. Sadly, one of the ten newborns had already passed away.
Furthermore, another animal on the farm exhibited signs of malnutrition.
All the animals were taken in by the Animal Welfare Department of La Orotava City Council and are currently undergoing rehabilitation in temporary care.
Following an assessment of the conditions they were found in, the officers have filed a report for suspected animal cruelty.
“The prompt response of the patrol in the area has saved the puppies from a tragic fate. They are now recuperating alongside their mother,” the town council stated.
