Coming Soon: Two New Dog Parks in La Laguna!

The Municipal Services Department of La Laguna City Council has announced the commencement of construction on a new dog park in Villa Hilaria to cater to the recreational needs of pets in the neighbourhood.

The new dog park will be situated in a landscaped area along Juan Pedro García Street, adjacent to the court, “deemed the most suitable for accommodating dogs, capitalising on its spaciousness and flat terrain, features that will ease its enclosure and preparation, offering ample room for pets to run and play,” stated the councillor for the area, Fran Hernández.

To enhance accessibility, two control pens will be established to manage the flow of entry and exit. Apart from the basic amenities, the park will witness substantial enhancements in terms of greenery and sustainability, with the introduction of various trees, shielded by a metal fence. There are plans for installing a new underground and cemented irrigation network to ensure its longevity, following the same strategy implemented in other dog-friendly spaces.

Enhancements in Infrastructure and Security in Tejina

Among the imminent improvement actions, the dog park in Tejina, situated on Guillermo González Street near Jardines de Tejina park, will also undergo renovations, “to maximise its functionality and safety,” he emphasised.

This initiative encompasses the installation of a new security fence and access control pen, the provision of waste receptacles and informative signage to encourage cleanliness and responsible utilisation of the area, along with three novel wooden benches crafted from recycled logs, among other enhancements and street furnishings.

The surroundings will be enriched with a new irrigation system and the planting of several trees strategically distributed, “just as we have been doing in the various projects championed by the Parks and Gardens division of Municipal Services, to augment tree coverage in urban settings and public spaces,” he highlighted.

Upcoming Phases

Hernández mentioned that the City Council intends to establish another dog area on the current plot between Avenida de Los Menceyes and Calle Aranjuez, near the tree-lined square, a project awaiting budget approval.

This fresh area will be positioned at the lower end of the mentioned plot, featuring a two-tier layout that will be more appealing for play. The project will entail the installation of a protective fence and the establishment of two access enclosures, one on each side, alongside a service entrance for maintenance vehicles. To offer future shade, various tree species will be planted, coupled with wooden benches and waste receptacles at both entry points, for the enhanced comfort of individuals and families who relish strolling with their pets.

With these endeavours, “La Laguna continues to take strides in advocating animal welfare. A direct response to the public outcry for secure, high-quality spaces for their pets,” he concluded.
