SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 6th August (EUROPA PRESS) –

Tenerife has accounted for almost half of the new employment opportunities created in the archipelago in July. Specifically, the Island recorded a total of 395,660 Social Security affiliates, marking a 4% increase compared to July 2023, with 15,290 new job positions created. This growth contributes to the overall figures for the Canary Islands, which saw 33,245 new affiliations, reaching a total of 906,870 affiliates, representing a 3.8% year-on-year increase.

The president of the Cabildo, Rosa Dávila, has highlighted that these statistics “confirm that the Island is emerging as the main driving force behind job creation in the Canary Islands, even in July, being responsible for almost half of the new jobs generated in the islands.” “This trend in the job market reflects the robust economic recovery and dynamism of our economy, which is the fastest-growing in the entire Archipelago,” she added.

She also emphasised the “collective effort of the new government team to ensure that the Cabildo becomes a genuine catalyst for the economy through collaboration with the private sector.” “We are extremely pleased with these results, which are the outcome of coordinated efforts and the commitment to the economic revitalisation and diversification of our island, following four years of stagnation,” she stated.

Rosa Dávila also underscored not only the efficacy of the Cabildo’s public policies to promote employment but also “the impetus, vigour, and climate of confidence being fostered in the business sector.”

MEMBERSHIP GROWTH

Membership growth was particularly notable in the Hospitality and Tourism sector, recording a total of 68,950 members, marking a 5% increase compared to the previous year. Meanwhile, the trade sector reached 71,630 members, showing a 2.8% year-on-year increase. The Construction sector, with 26,575 members, saw a growth of 3.3% compared to July of the previous year.

Across economic sectors, those experiencing the highest percentage increase compared to July 2023 are Social services, with 16.34%; Furniture manufacturing; other manufacturing industries; repair and installation of machinery and equipment, with 9.98%; Code editing, audiovisual, and programming, with 9.88%, and Artistic, recreational and entertainment activities, with 8.14%.

In terms of gender, women have seen a 4.68% increase in memberships (8,475), while men have experienced a 3.42% rise (6,815 new memberships).

According to the President of the Cabildo, “the significant increase in new jobs in the manufacturing, audiovisual, and programming industries, as well as in artistic, recreational, and entertainment activities, represents a crucial move towards the economic diversification of Tenerife. These sectors not only create employment opportunities but also foster innovation and creativity, serving as essential pillars for a more sustainable economy that is less reliant on tourism.”
