During last July, it was very warm in Canary Islands, the tenth hottest of the past 60 years, with 42.8 degrees Celsius in Tasarte (Gran Canaria) on the 19th as the maximum temperature; and at the same time very humid, the fifth in the same historical series.
The average temperature in the archipelago during the seventh month of the year was 23.2 degrees Celsius, which represents a deviation of +0.9% from the expected values.
Regarding the accumulated precipitation, an average of 2.2 millimetres was recorded, 244% above the expected value, as indicated in the climatological advance of the Canary Islands published this Tuesday by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).
Last month had two clearly marked climatological periods: from the 1st to the 9th with an average temperature below the reference values due to a strongly anticyclonic situation, and from the 10th to the 27th, marked by the approach of the African dorsal, which brought three warm episodes, without in any case reaching the level of being considered heatwaves.
A total of 1,246 records of tropical nights were counted, those nights where the minimum temperatures do not drop below 20 degrees, at the Aemet stations deployed in Canary Islands, some located above 2,000 meters of altitude.
In the stations of Pájara-Morro Jable (Fuerteventura) and San Sebastián de La Gomera all nights in July were tropical; in Mogán-Puerto Rico (Gran Canaria), Fuencaliente-Salinas (La Palma) and El Hierro-Airport they were all except for the day 22 in the first, the 18th in the second, and the 5th in the third.

The 14 millimetres of accumulated precipitation at the San Andrés y Sauces station (La Palma) on the 29th stand out.
