The Assembly of the Northern Ramp of the Padre Anchieta Roundabout

The Island Council of Tenerife, with the Roads and Mobility department, completed the installation of the northern ramp of the main pedestrian circle of the Padre Anchieta roundabout last night at 11:00 p.m. The project involves setting up four ramps, each 16 metres long and weighing 19 tonnes, serving as the starting point of the pedestrian pathway from Trinidad Avenue. These assembly works, scheduled at night, will run until the following Friday.

President of the island, Rosa Dávila, emphasised the positive advancement of the project, as the four modules of the connecting ramp between Avenida de la Trinidad and the Gran Anillo Pedestrian arrived on the island. This structure is deemed as “one of the most revolutionary infrastructures in Europe, enhancing the mobility conditions for approximately 50,000 vehicles and the safety of around 20,000 pedestrians who utilise it daily. This will provide an efficient link between urban and university zones and the La Laguna transport interchange,” she elaborated.

The construction of the large pedestrian ring road at Padre Anchieta includes 11 metal pieces, each weighing 40 tonnes, and 3 connecting ramps (North, East, and South), representing an investment of 8.8 million euros. The ongoing works, managed by Obras Huarte Lain SA, involve assembling the 4 modules composing the northern ramp, 125 metres long and 1.85 metres wide. This ramp is supported by 7 square section metal piles, which are currently in place. The works are carried out continuously over four nights, commencing at 9:00 p.m. on the previous day and concluding on Friday, 9th August at 6:00 a.m. These activities require the closure of Trinidad Avenue from the Padre Anchieta roundabout to Pedro Zerolo Street.

Concurrently, due to the installation of the ramp components necessitating the removal of the tram catenary today, the tram service will operate solely between the Santa Cruz Interchange and Campus Guajara stops. Stops at Gracia, Museo de la Ciencia, Cruz de Piedra, Padre Anchieta, and Trinidad will be temporarily out of service.

The Council advises motorists to adhere to the guidance of the road department personnel and the signage in the area and maintain utmost safety precautions.
