SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 3 Aug. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Over the weekend, the Island Council of Tenerife is maintaining the prohibition on lighting fires in recreational and outdoor areas (such as barbecues, bonfires, gas stoves, or cookers), as well as the use of any machinery or tools that could create sparks (such as brush cutters, welding equipment, or radial saws), and the use of any pyrotechnic material in high-risk areas.
Smoking is also not allowed in recreational areas, camping sites, campsites, trails and paths, viewpoints, and other public infrastructure situated in the mountains.
The president of the Cabildo, Rosa Dávila, stated in a press release that the risk of forest fires still exists, and level 1 measures are in place, so “we need to continue taking extreme precautions across the entire island with any activities that could potentially lead to fires.”
Therefore, throwing lit cigarette butts and matches – whether on foot or from a car window – as well as launching rockets, firecrackers, fireworks or any other fire-containing devices in dangerous areas, even in open fields, agricultural lands, or particularly in residential areas surrounded by forests, is strictly prohibited.
Additionally, residents living in homes within the interface zone are advised to maintain cleanliness in their surroundings, clear away any branches touching the facades of their houses, and have essential fire-fighting tools (such as hoses, axes) and a water supply readily available.
